Zooming in a bit, the grades are more apparent
in the double switchback. Grades are as steep as four percent
getting up to the high line. The Shay is sitting on the
mainline, with a run-around track to the right. The long
single track beyond the crossover is where the skeleton flats will
be loaded by the McGiffert loader. The short track to the
right (beyond the crossover) is for supplies and a kitchen
car. The small blocks at the end of each section of roadbed
are temporary bumpers to prevent disaster before the permanent
bumpers are installed. |
